Sometimes you can't say no!
Hello everyone! Happy Monday, hope everyone had a great weekend. Today I just have a quick little DIY I did on a vintage dress I found at a little shop that I couldn't leave without! It is a beautiful seersucker fabric in the typical blue and white stripped pattern. The dress has the cutest details from the pockets right up to the buttons down the bodice. I just love it. My ONLY problem with the dress was it was too big, UGH!
This pretty baby just sadly swallowed me. BUT there was a solution for that and it was so simple and easy. All you will need to alter any article of clothing that is too big for you is a couple of pins and a sewing machine! Okay so here is what I did:
1) put the dress on inside out
2) determine exactly where it needs to be taken in (for me it was too big in the straps and also a little too big in the bodice)
2) determine exactly where it needs to be taken in (for me it was too big in the straps and also a little too big in the bodice)
3) then all I did was grab my pins, fold the fabric over in the spots I needed to be tighter and pin myself into place
p.s. be very careful getting out of your garment because those pins hurt!
4) lastly all you will need to do is sew down the folded fabric and be sure to back stitch
Then you should be done and you can enjoy your new nice fitting garment!
For my dress these are the two spots I had to sewn down. I just made sure to stitch down where the red lines are and backstitch at the black marks.
& here it is!
I am so pleased with how it turned out and I am glad that I went ahead and purchased the dress even though I knew I would have to sew it to fit me. As soon as Michigan warms up and I can wear this dress, I'll make sure I do a post on how I decided to style it. I can see red lips and red flats in the near future ;)
Do you guys have any alterations you want to do on clothes lately?
Maybe now is the time!
xoxo
Monica
