Lime Jell-O Mold
In my mind, nothing says vintage dessert more than a Jell-O mold. It is something often featured in my vintage cookbooks but, in my entire almost 30 years of living, I have never been face to face with any of these concoction. I have possessed a very strong curiosity as to why this fad has faded. The photos are beautiful and the dishes are very appealing to the eyes. Why would you not want to eat these?
I had a lot of questions about this mysterious dessert. Is the texture strange? Do the flavors not work? Are they not as easy as I think they are to make?
In order to answer these questions, I decided to go on the hunt for some molds and make one myself.
Mixing up Jell-O is a piece pf cake and I even found a recipe book that shares all the tricks you need to know in order to make a successful mold.
I was feeling great all the way up until my first layer wasn't setting up as firm as I would have liked. There was a little too much wiggle in my jiggle but I decided to add the second layer anyway... I didn't know what else to do. I didn't have another box of Jell-O handy so I took a leap of faith.... and landed flat on my face.....
If you watched the video, right before I put the first layer in to chill, Sullivan and I did a last minute mixing inside the mold. I think that where things went wrong. Some of the oil in the pan mixed into the jello and prevented it from meshing together.
Luckily I had loads of my mixture for the second layer left so I decided to put it into the heart mold. It came out beautifully!! No hassle releasing it from the pan and it held its shape once on the plate.
Jell-O has not seen the last of me! You wait for next weeks video. I am giving this another go!

You have inspired me to pull out my old Tupperware Jello mold and try to make an Easter jello salad. My Mom always made molded jello salads for practically every holiday!! Any good recipes for Easter?
